New King Street Bicycle Racks
The City of Charleston’s Civic Design Center and the Department of Economic Development have created a pilot program to provide more bicycle parking on the Peninsula. The project focuses on the intersections along King Street between Market Street and Spring Street. The new bike racks have been strategically placed due to King Street's narrow sidewalks and high amounts of pedestrian traffic.
The City of Charleston supports bicycling as a form of transportation and recreation and encourages the safe and responsible operation of bicycles in our historic district. In an effort to protect pedestrians, bicyclists, and property, the City has developed a set of common sense rules for parking bicycles in the downtown area. Please note that it will continue to be prohibited to lock bicycles to parking meters, utility poles, cables, signs, street lights, and trees and shrubs. It is also not legal to park near an intersection, crosswalk, driveway, fire hydrant, emergency equipment, or bus stop.
Please refer to the attached brochure for the locations of these new bicycle racks as well as nearby parking lots and garages that provide bicycle parking. Thank you for parking your bike responsibly!
